Artist Statement

After being influenced by research on the limbic system, I wanted to bridge the gap between sentimental objects and how these objects, as artifacts, can stimulate an emotional memory based on its virtual and physical interaction. Conceptually I desired to take the sentimental rosaries and jewelry from my great grandmother and remediate their value into the gallery space by using the HoloLens’s to make real interactive holograms. The HoloLens device is able to automate spatial maps where the models are virtually placed and interrelated within the physical realm. Ideally, I sought to allude to an old child-like memory that is triggered by subtle smells and visual skewed abstractions of the sentimental artifacts.

In my process I used Sculptris and Maya to create three-dimensional abstractions of the sentimental artifacts of which are brought into Unity. In unity, I transcoded the virtually artifacts into a deployable app on the HoloLens. As a compliment, physical sentimental corresponding artifacts are placed within the gallery in connection to the virtual holograms. The holograms varied in size and scope to allude to old memories while the sentimental holographic objects are modular. The space is interactive by way of using the index finger tapping gesture to move the virtual artifacts.
